Costs in October are significantly lower than the December–January peak and only slightly higher than September. Accommodation is available with 2–3 months advance booking at most destinations. Guided tour slots are accessible without the months-long advance booking required for the Christmas window. Flights to aurora hubs like Tromsø are considerably cheaper in October than in January. For budget-conscious aurora travellers, October offers the second-best value window in the season after September — excellent conditions at reasonable prices.

October 15–31 has more darkness per night but lower average geomagnetic activity. For a single trip, early-to-mid October is the overall sweet spot.
